A some what feel good article for us singletons :
Hear me out : Rebecca Traister
I am happier as a single person than I ever was in a relationship . Of course that’s because my previous relationships weren’t’ t right for me .
And that’s the point all of us have to recognize : You can be happier on your own than in a mediocre partnership you maintain just for the sake of being with someone .
My grandmother ,even my mother would have been nowhere near as free to enjoy the years of eating out and working and sleeping late and getting to know my self that I’ve enjoyed ……These single women have the freedom to make their own plans without consulting anyone . The ability to make our own choices allows us to discover who we are and what we want for ourselves . Not to mention whom we love. We have the time and room in our lives to cultivate rich relationships with friends ,colleagues and parents. And when we do partner up ,we’ll come to those partnerships with years of self sufficiency under our belts. We’ll bring more money ,professional experience, social confidence –in short ,more power- to our relationships than we would have had we married young.
While I think there is scope for more happiness… I can relate with the author, also from todays NYT ,the “sad” situation of marriages in America
