Living single...

I was thinking about roommates …. Maybe it was because I saw a scrap from my present roommate today. a few scraps above my previous two roommates ..and yea seems like half my testimonials are from people I’ve shared living space with….i’ve been living with flat mates/roommates /housemates since ’98…close to 10 years…. Wow ….I guess roommates tend to take a place higher than acquaintances ..if for no other reason than that they are the ones you get back home to after a day spent with acquaintances… given that fact roommates past and present should ideally stay in your head even while some acquaintances may fade away in memory, .. I thought I’d undertake a project and just list the initials of people I’ve stayed with …

’98 A.M and S.P with S.S. a constant visitor :)
’99 S.M and V.J
’00 A.D and P.
’01 A.D and S.B.
’02-’03 –Parents
Spring ’04 SG
Interim ’04- darn I forget her name :)
Fall ;04 HW
End of the year ’04 –B.P,S.J., S.
Spring ’05- P.K.
Fall ’05- C.M
Spring ’06 S.G and S.G. :) and P.M.
Fall 06’ S.G. and S.D. and S.P (for a day)
Also M.N and S.R, when I first came to ttown…..
Spring ’07- P.P.!!
That’s a long list …interesting activity when you think about it …

Going through a Quarter -Life crisis ...check back in two decades...

Ok so now I totally understand this ….. I realize that I’m not strange to be feeling this ..and there are enough messed up people out there for a technical term to be created about this situation ( well not technical term exactly…) don’t I always say that 25 is the new 15 ?!?!? So here goes …I seem to have been going through and am currently in the throes of a quarter life crisis …. From the wiki

The quarterlife crisis is a term applied to the period of life immediately following the major changes of adolescence, usually ranging from the ages of 21 - 29. The term is named by analogy with mid-life crisis. It is now recognised by many therapists and professionals in the mental health field. The phenomenon has been identified in Japan as 'freeter'. Abby Wilner coined the phrase in 1997 and co-authored the first book to identify this phenomenon: Quarterlife Crisis, the Unique Challenges of Life in your Twenties (Tarcher, 2001).

Some parts of the wiki that relate to my condition are :

The version of the "quarter-life crisis" proposed by Erikson, then, is very different from the one that occurs in popular culture. Indeed, the pop-culture version of the "quarter-life crisis" contains more elements of the crisis Erickson associated with adolescence, Identity vs. Role-confusion, giving credence to the theory that late-20th century life, with its bizarre mix of extreme comfort and insecurity, is then causing people to mature at a slower rate.

Spongy people and such like.....

So I read this article in O magazine , it dealt with the concept of ‘Sponge People’

Here’s the introduction ?!!

You’re talking to someone and suddenly feel tense , angry sad. Why is that ? You wonder. You’re spongy.
– Martha Beck

The article basically deals with “contagious psychological phenomena”, another indicator of how people who give out bad vibes ( and not necessarily by action, this article says by thought even !!) can negatively affect you , and vice versa how encouraging thoughts help you perform better .

All this information just added more dimension to what I already know of as ‘Toxic Relationships’( check out the link if you want to reacquaint yourself with the term), ideally I wouldn’t get into one, but if I did; as soon as I realize that maintaining the relationship was far more trouble than the relationship was worth I would probably end it ( does this sound selfish ? Maybe the sentence comes off sounding like that but this is what most experts suggest we ought to do) .

What really gets to me about the above mentioned relationships is that apart from the obvious emotional, spiritual and mental toll, I’ve noticed that when I interact with people who test my patience , I take sadistic pleasure in trying as much as possible ( given my nature) to get back at them, you know being obnoxious or doing things I would not do to anyone else; but just because of the way the person was behaving that was so totally asking for it , I some times have to stoop to their level , I know that by doing so I only bring myself down, and become a lesser person ,so that’s why I don’t like the effect such people have on me , basically got sponged into doing so!!!

Conversely when I meet people who are genuinely nice , or cheery or plain genuine!!! I probably would be on my best behavior and reciprocate their niceness ,or you know even if lacking any positive qualities they don’t posses negative ones I’ll still be rather civil,
I just wish there was a way I could be civil with all those negative people, whom I now realize I probably have to encounter at every stage of life!!! I swear sometimes they just drive me up the wall!!!!

Does this entry seem personal?? It isn’t!!! It’s just about a phenomenon I know truly exists!!!!!

full circle

Life goes on …. Just when you think you’ve wiped the slate clean along comes something or someone to remind you of the past … And what happens then? Do you revert back to the person, people thought “you were”???

...life happens, things change, people change, I’ve changed!!! But not really ……the person I am truly inside..the absent minded , but kind hearted?? Goofy gal with the long hair , bad handwriting, et al …. that’s the true me , and those who saw me like that and continue to see me like that I love you and always will (to people who really know you , nothing you do or become should come as a surprise)

Yes life has come full circle… I’ve moved on and I’m back where I belong!!!

Your friends will know you better in the first minute you meet than your acquaintances will know you in a thousand years.

Life's Little instructions- Part 1

I thought I would pen some inspiring stuff in this blog . Life’s Little Instruction book is one of my favorite books , I have two of the series with me right now and a copy at home in India. I love inspirational reading, would say its my favorite genre of books…I’m a sucker for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and recently bought a gift book called “A little book of hugs”, well for as long as I can ,whenever I feel like I’ll post a few instructions from the book in kind of the sequence they occur in the book.. again it’s called Life’s Little instruction Book..it’s by H. Jackson Brown Jr. ,and it’s a gem of a book :)
1. Believe in love at first sight .. ( no harm in believing!!!)
2. Never laugh at anyone’s dreams.
3. When you feel terrific notify your face.
4. Accept a breath mint if someone offers you one.

13. remember no time is ever wasted that makes two people better friends.
14. there are people who will always come up with reasons why you cant do what you want to do .ignore them .
